1963SummerSt. Louis· Co., Chisholm, Aug. 9, 3 seen, F. V. Strnad; also listed as "breeding" in a report from the Chippewa National Forest, but no further details as yet. This would be the first Minnesota breeding record to my knowledge. This species does breed in the Turtle Mountain area of North Dakota and there is one extra-limital breeding record from Iowa. It is therefore surprising that this species has not been found' breeding in Minnesota long ago. White-winged Seater: St. Louis Co. line, Knife River, June 1, 6 seen, Ruth Kuchta. Like the preceding species, this one breeds in the Turtle Mountain area of North Dakota and there is one record of a presumed family group in Clearwater Co., Minnesota. Two overwintered in Otter Tail (GMO) and a female overwintered on the Rum River in Anoka (KL). Hooded ~erganser A north report from the Grand Marais CBC. South reports from Hennepin 12/22 (BDC), Ramsey 12/2 (RJ), Washington 12/1 (KL), Waseca 12/2 (JCF), Houston 12/12 (20, KL, FL) and Dakota, 12/20 until 1/30 (m.ob.). A February report from Mower 2/20 (JM). Common ~erganser Reported from 20 counties in all but the NW region. A statewide CBC total of 2656 with 1725 on the Winona CBC. Red-breasted Merganser reported on the Duluth (10) and Excelsior (I) CBC's. Also reported in Dakota 12/20 (DS).
