1932Summerl1arius Morse saw a single adult enter a hole at the top of a dead tamnrack in, the spruce-tamarack swan~ in Itasca P~k on June 23rd. This is an interesting · observation, for although it is a common bird, the nest has never been found in Minnesota, according to r~. Robert's, Birds of Minnesota. ' 1
1933Summer Swedenbord saw an adult of this species carrying food at Common Loon Lcke, Cook County, on Juno 19th.
1934Summer '. ~sole supplied the only data on this interesting northerner, from Itascf,l. Park. On July 6th Dr• Dawson showed him 3 youn~ out of the nest, a.ccompan~cd by 2 adults.
1935Summer Thoro were no eggs in the nest that Dobie saw April 29th near Park Rapids. But Swedcnborg writes that last surmner with Prosser he found Red-breasted Nuthatches "very numerous a.t Caribou Lake between June 23rd and 29th. Sc'Voral families soon, tho young being fed." 2.3 '
1936Summer The only record eomes :from E. D. Swedenborg at Brule River where on June 23rd he found a nest of small young.
1940SummerAt Blackhoof, Carl~ton Co. on June I2, Dr. Lakcla and C. Hero watched a male and female carry food to an opening in a tree.

1983Winter Reported from 17 north and 22 south counties throughout the state with the exception of the west central region. Most common in the north central and northeast regions. Peak CBC count of 43 at Bemidji and a statewide count total of 350.
1984Spring Reported from eleven south, nineteen north counties.
1984Summernested in Cook, Lake and Clearwater; also seen in 11 other counties including Houston (6/28, Mound Prairie-FL) and Sherburne (7/ 12-OJ).
1984Fall Reported from 13 counties north, 16 south.
1984Winter Reported from 40 counties throughout the state. The total CBC count was 441 and 133 at Grand Marais. The CBC data suggests this species was most common in the NE and NC regions and relatively scarce in the balance of the state. VVhite-breasted Nuthatch Reported from 62 counties throughout the state. Distribution similar to last year and a few again overwintered in Grand Marais in the NE region.

1987Winter Reported from 37 counties throughout the state (30 L. Y.). Statewide CBC total of 672 (328 L.Y.). Typical CBC counts in the central and south regions were of five to ten individuals while those in the NE and north central regions were on the order of 50 to 100.

1989Winter Widespread but spottily distributed with largest numbers in east central and northeast from Duluth to the Twin Cities. Reported in 56 counties ( 18 l. y.) with a statewide CBC total of 1,087 (231 I. y.).
1990Spring Reported from 14 north and 26 south counties.
1990Summer Probable nesting in Crow Wing; seen in nine other north-central and northeast counties plus Anoka, Washington.
1990Fall Reported from 16 north and nine (28 last year) south counties; early south 8/27 Hennepin DB, 8/28 Washington RJ, 8/31 Mower RRK.
1990Winter Low numbers spottily distributed with only one report (Lamberton CBC, Redwood) west of a line from Otter Tail on the north to Blue Earth on the south. Reported in 32 counties (56 l.y.) with a statewide CBC total of 232 (1,087 l.y.).

1991Summer Nested in Clearwater, Crow Wing, Cook; seen in nine other northern counties including Clay MM.

1991Winter Scarce again with reports from only 31 counties (32 l.y.) with a CBC total of 459 (232 l.y. and 1,087 two years ago). Most reports in the north and east. Only reports south and west of a line drawn from Otter Tail to Hennepin to Freeborn were Brown and Cottonwood.
1992Spring Reported from 11 north and eight south counties.
1992Summer Probable breeding in Cook. Seen in seven other north central and northeastern counties plus Roseau, Ramsey.
1992Fall Reported from 13 north and 12 south counties; early south 8/28 Hennepin SC, 9/9 Washington TEB.
1992Winter Reported from 36 counties (31 l.y.). The only two counties in the west central and southwest regions were Otter Tail and Cottonwood. Although most observers reported them as very scarce, numbers appeared higher in the far north. CBC total 290 (459 l.y.).
1993Spring Reported from 13 north and 13 south counties.
1993Summer More reports than usual. Nested in Crow Wing; probable nesting in St. Louis. Seen in 12 additional northern counties as far west as Roseau, Clay LCF; plus Hennepin, Washington, Dakota.
1993Fall Reported from 23 (13 last year) north and 24 (12 last year) south counties. Early south 8/4 Dakota TT, 8/7 Hennepin TBr, SC.
1993Winter Numbers up. Reported from 44 counties (36 l.y.) throughout the state.
1994Spring Reported from 17 north and 20 south counties.
1994Summer Seen in eight counties in north central and northeast; plus Roseau, Hennepin, Dakota.
1994Fall Reported from 15 north and ten south counties.
1994Winter Numbers down. Reported from 30 counties mostly in northern and eastern regions, with no west central reports, only Lyon in the southwest, and only Brown in the south central. CBC total 705, with good numbers reported in northeast (counts ranged from 22-265 individuals), but scarce in the south and west (counts ranged from 1–12 individuals).
1995Spring Reported from 12 south and 15 north counties.
1995Summer Most reports in 12+ years and almost double the number for last year. Probable nesting in St. Louis; seen in 16 additional northern counties plus Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey.
1995Fall Reported from 25 north (15 l.y.) and 26 south (10 l.y.) counties. Observers reported good numbers in the south and low numbers in the northeast.
1995Winter Reported from a record 59 counties throughout the state. There was a notable incursion into southern regions. CBC total an above average 860, with 68 on the Rochester CBC and 62 on the St. Paul (northeast suburban) CBC.
1996Spring Reported from 23 south and 24 north counties.
1996Summer Probable breeding in Crow Wing. Observed in nine additional north central and northeast counties plus Roseau, Becker, Kanabec, Chisago, Hennepin, Washington.
1996Fall Twenty-two north (25 l.y.) and nine (26 l.y.) south reports. Reported as scarce in the south.
1996Winter Reported from only 40 counties throughout the state (record 59 l.y.). After last year's incursion into southern regions, this season only 48 of the total 882 individuals on CBCs were in the south. Common in northern regions where a peak of 266 was noted on the Grand Marais CBC.
1997Spring Reported primarily in the north. Very scarce in the south.
1997Summer New nesting record in Cass TR, EP; probable nesting in Crow Wing, Lake, Cook. Also seen in Marshall, Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Aitkin, St. Louis, Carlton, Kanabec, Anoka, Dakota.
1997Fall Reported throughout the state.
1997Winter Common throughout the state. Reported from a record 60 counties (40 l.y.).
1998Spring Reported throughout the state.
1998Summer Seen in ten northeast and north central counties plus Roseau, Marshall, Morrison, Kanabec, Pine, Anoka, Washington, and Ramsey; probable nesting in St. Louis, Lake, Ramsey. Unusual report 7/12 Freeborn (2) ABa.
1998Fall Reported throughout the state.
1998Winter Reported from 18 north and 20 south counties, but scarce in the south, with a CBC total of only 73 in the south, compared to 480 in the north.
1999Spring Reported throughout the north. Despite low numbers in the south during the CBCs (see winter report), lingered into late May in several locations, including 5/16 Nicollet WM, DBM, 5/17 Freeborn ABa, 5/18 Anoka RH, 5/25 Isanti RH.
1999Summer Seen in 11 north central and northeast counties, plus Becker, Pine, Kanabec, Anoka. Also anunusual report 7/2 Cottonwood BBo.
1999Fall Reported throughout the state.
1999Winter Reported from 53 counties throughout the state.
2000Spring Observed in 16 south counties through 5/13 Hennepin TT, 5/26 Brown JSp. Also seen throughout usual range in north regions.
2000Summer Record high number of reports. Observed in 21 counties as far west and south as a line through Roseau, Pennington, Dakota; plus 6/29–30 Goodhue DST.
2000Fall Reported statewide, but apparently scarce during August in south, where only three reports prior to mid-September.
2000Winter Reported from 43 counties across the state. CBC total included 85 in south and 739 in north.
2001Spring Observed in 10 south counties as late as 5/22 Olmsted PWP. Also seen throughout usual range in north.
2001Summer Observed in 18 counties as far west and south as a line through Roseau, Hubbard, Ramsey, Washington; plus possible nesting in Olmsted JGL, JWH.
2001Fall More reports than in recent years. Seen throughout the state, with many south reports beginning mid-August.
