1930 | Summer | | | Charles Evans found the earliest nest on May 1Oth, one with two sparrow's eggs and a Brown-headed Cowbird's, Two nests were found on May 16th, one by Marius Morse at Robbinsdale, with five eggs of the owner and a Brown-headed Cowbird's; and the other by Alden Risser at st. Paul, contents, four eggs, The latest nest was at Shakopee on July 29th and held a single young bird. Several other nests were found, among thel':l one by Gustav Swanson at Frontenac on May 13th, four eggs; one by the same observer at Deer River on June 14th, five eggs; one by the writer near Onan:in on May 24th, five eggs, and another by the writer at Minneapolis on May 26th with four &Jall young, A rather unusual nest was found near Northome on June 24th, It was situated in a cut along a road about six inches from the top in a oa.vi ty evidently left by a fallen rock, Only a. few grasses and rootlets constituted the nest which held five young, -.3.3 -The Flicker, 19.30 |

The interior wns occupied by 1 egg of tho ower o.nd 2 of tho Brown-headed Cowbird, o.nd tho observer no.rratos concerning it thusly; "This nest was five and a half feet up in a Norwny ?.L,e, and was so bulky that I first thought it wa.s o. thro.short s nest. The inside dio:metor was 2 3/4ths inches and the outside diameter (exclusive of loose grasses) was 7 inches.11 |

Cloud he found 2 nests, with 2 eggs, and 3 eggs and 1 C01·rbird1s egg respectively. These lnst two nests, ns well as 3 others found by Hanson and Hiemenz on July 20th, were in bushes, one of them beinG in vines 6 foot fran the ero,md. A nest found by Dr• Prosser and Mr. and l1rs. Swedenborg on June 21st was interesting because of the great difference in marking of its two eggs. One was so heavily spotted and blotched th~t the greonj_sh background was nearly concealed, while the other was vory lightly mn.rkod. |
