1994-09-15St. Louis9/15 St. Louis (second county record)
Second state record, 9/15 Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve, St. Louis Co., FN et al (The Loon 66:213–214). The first state record was also during a migration census (Lakewood Pumping Station) in Duluth on 10/13/85.
71:1561998-04-21BloomingtonHennepin(record #9842, vote 0–7). This dove was described as having a white “X-like pattern across the back” in flight and as being “an overall medium slate gray in color.” However, neither of these features is consistent with this species. In addition, the observers partly based their identification on it having a different “butterfly-like” flight, even though manner of flight is not a field mark in any of the larger pigeons/doves. It was unanimously agreed that a more accurate description is needed for such an unusual species to be accepted (it would have represented a third state record), and the opinion was advanced that this might have been a Rock Dove with white on the wings. Not Accepted
376:392003-07-05near Grand MaraisCook(record #2003-53, vote 7–0). All ten MOURC members vote on questions of whether or not photographs are identifiable. The identification of this third state record was unanimously Accepted, but by a vote of 3–7 the photos included with the documentation were judged not clear enough on their own to identify the bird. Accordingly, this species remains on the state list with the (s) qualifier (i.e., all the records are sight-only records, with none accompanied by an identifiable specimen, photo, or other physical evidence). Accepted

All ten members vote on whether or not the identification can be made on the basis of physical evidence alone (in this case, photographs). The latter vote removes the “s” subscript from this species on the state checklist. Accepted
