Green-tailed Towhee in Cottonwood County

'Accidental' in Minnesota - Five or fewer records in Cottonwood County for the Spring season

January 1, during their Christmas bird count, the Cottonwood County bird club confirmed the presence of a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE in Mountain Lake. The bird has apparently been hanging out at a feeder for some time. The feeder is in front of a residence and is quite easy to see from the street side.

Directions: Mountain Lake is on Highway 60 between Worthington and Mankato. Take the first exit from Highway 60 (coming from either direction). Continue on 3rd Avenue to 10th street. Turn north on 10th street, the main north-south street through the business destrict. Proceed north to the edge of town. At the edge of town there will be a cemetery and lake to the west (left) and houses to the east (right side). The feeder is in front of the second to the last house on the right side, a pale green house. The street has a recently widened shoulder, so there is plenty of room to park off the road and observe the whole area in front of the house where the towhee is likely to be. If you cross the bridge and dam and are out of town, you have gone a little too far!
