Red Crossbill in Grant County

Five or fewer records in Grant County for the Fall season

One of at least 5 Red Crossbills feeding on spruce cones at Pine Ridge County Park; found by the MN Birding Weekends group this afternoon. Two of the 5 crossbills were juveniles, possibly indicating that these birds may have nested at this location, although other mid-August observations suggest that an irruption of this species from farther west may be underway in western MN.
