Sabine's Gull in Brown County
0000-00-00

'Rare Regular' in Minnesota - First record for Brown County in the Spring season

On Saturday, 9-9-06, Jim and Ruth Amundson and Brian Smith found a juvenile Sabine's Gull at the Sleepy Eye sewage ponds. This bird provided close observation as it leisurely foraged as close as 20-30 feet from shore. The head, neck and back were grayish brown and the wings had a scaling pattern. At times it would take flight to feed tern-like just over the water and showed the bold triangular wing pattern. If accepted by the MOURC, this would be a first record for Brown county.

Digiscoped by Brian Smith.
