'Rare Regular' in Minnesota - Five or fewer records in St. Louis County for the Fall season
Though seen daily since it was first found by Cameron Rutt and Peder H. Svingen on the 4th, this White-winged Dove at the 40th Ave West/Erie Pier area in Duluth has proven difficult to refind. Most sightings have been between 4:00 and 6:00 PM, either after the bird has been flushed from the ground near the southwest corner of the impoundment, or when it flies in to roost in a thick stand of aspen and willows near the northwest corner of the impoundment. This image shows the bird already starting to doze off at its perch just above eye level near the trunk of a 2 inch dbh aspen. The bird was still in this location when we (Barb and Denny Martin, Peder Svingen) left at 6:00 PM.
