Common in Cook County in the Winter season
The 300-400 Bohemian Waxwings that were in Grand Marais this week finished off the scant remainder of mountain ash berries in town. They graduated to regular apple trees and from 10:00am until around noon they invaded the alleys and foraged on apples. With a whir of wings the "cloud" erupted into the southwestern horizon over the harbor and disappeared. There had to be at least 1000 in this massive flock.
