Northern Saw-whet Owl in St. Louis County

Common in St. Louis County in the Spring season

We accidentally stumbled up this little Northern Saw-Whet Owl under the Hwy 61 bridge over the French River just N of Duluth. We were looking for water foul in the river and came across the owl resting on a rock beneath the bridge. We were within 6 feet of it before we even noticed it was there. We watched it for several minutes before some other people scared the owl into flying up into the bridge supports and then across the river.
