Snowy Owl in Dodge County

Common in Dodge County in the Spring season

One of 14 Snowy Owls found this morning by Sean Peterson and myself in southwestern Dodge County between Claremont and Blooming Prairie. Thirteen of these birds were in an area bordered by CR 3 to the east, 680th St. to the north, 110th Ave. to the west, and CR 4 to the south. We found the fourteenth bird a couple miles east of this area. This total represents a new high count for Minnesota. While as many as 4 of these birds may have been present in this location throughout the winter, I'd have to believe the additional 10 birds are recent arrivals en route to points north.
