Lesser Black-backed Gull in St. Louis County

'Rare Regular' in Minnesota

Peder Svingen and I were gull watching at the Superior Entry located at the tip of Wisconsin Point when this 2nd cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull came into our chum to join the hundreds of Ring-billed and Herring Gulls. This fall season at this location Karl Bardon and Peder Svingen and I identified 1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3rd cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull, two 2nd cycle Lesser Black-backed Gulls and one first cycle Lesser Black-backed Gull. At least 2000 gulls have been counted at the Superior Entry way and this week Thayer's Gulls are arriving daily and at least two Great Black-backed Gulls have been located this fall here as well.
