Uncommon in St. Louis County in the Winter season
Hoary Redpoll (Acanthis hornemanni) feeding on tansy at the Port Terminal, Duluth, St. Louis County, 15 December 2012. This individual was found amongst a flock of 43 Common Redpolls (A. flammea) during the Duluth CBC. This image shows a pale pink wash across its unstreaked breast with just a few faint streaks along the lower flanks, and pure white under tail-coverts. The bird was slightly larger and frosty in comparison to flammea, with a stubbier bill and whitish rump, and probably merits a score of 9 or better on the Eckert Scale.
