Greater Yellowlegs in Blue Earth County

Common in Blue Earth County in the Fall season

This Greater Yellowlegs was found at a small wetland north of O.A. Vee WMA along 535th Avenue south of Hwy 60. While not an unusual species, the 9-inch stick lodged in its neck is particularly odd. The bird occasionally attempted to remove it, but otherwise fed and behaved normally. Perhaps this is T. m. frankensteini.
