Uncommon in Dakota County in the Winter season

Whilst blowing snow off my deck this afternoon today I had that nagging feeling I was being watched. A quick glance toward my conifers spotted the culprit, a "snow(blowing)owl". Get it? Later, the owl flew and landed on my bird feeder post. I watched him do a nice snow plunge, but came up empty taloned. He hunted until well after dark and was still visible at 8:30pm. My first sighting in the yard (I've heard them tho).
