Uncommon in Washington County in the Winter season
OK - I'm breaking the rules - 2 entries in a day - but it's Christmas, so I get an exception. This northern shrike was caught in a ground trap at Carpenter Nature Center. Notice the blood on the chin (from a junco) and the gloved hand. Jim Fitzpatrick banded the bird and learned that a gloved hand was better. The bird drew blood from Jim's hand during banding. This is the second time we've caught a northern shrike at Carpenter in the last 4 years. Our Christmas present - found by Sue Plankis
