'Rare Regular' in Minnesota

This first-cycle Thayer's Gull (Larus thayeri) was seen on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry through at least the 16th of May. A different first-cycle bird was photographed at nearby Allouez Bay, Douglas County, Wisconsin on the 18th. There are several northern Minnesota records for the third week of May, and an amazing record of a first-cycle Thayer's Gull photographed by Karl Bardon at Duluth, 4 & 30 June 1998 (The Loon 71:23). It will be interesting to see if this or another individual lingers into the summer season.
