'Rare Regular' in Minnesota
Second-cycle type Iceland Gull at Canal Park, Duluth, Minnesota, 11 May 2010, representing the third latest occurrence of this species in the state. This individual has been seen consistently in the late afternoon since at least 30 April 2010, especially on days with offshore winds when it forages along the Lakewalk between Canal Park and Lake Park Place. The latest dates on record for this species in Minnesota refer to a second or third-cycle individual at Duluth 2-18 May 1978 (Loon 50:175-176, 50:198) and a first-cycle individual at Duluth 18-21 May 2009 (Loon 81:181).
